With portions consumed by 400 million people worldwide, we have a responsibility to promote healthier, more sustainable, and more accessible food. Our vision is built around three product categories that are widely encouraged by health authorities around the globe: dairy, fruit-based, and plant-based products.

EATING BETTER IS A MATTER OF BALANCE

  • All around the world, health authorities recommend reducing the intake of saturated fats, added sugars, and sodium.
  • To meet this challenge, we’ve implemented a portion-based nutritional profiling system.
  • Objective: Set maximum thresholds for these nutrients per portion, in line with WHO recommendations.

Ever Healthier Portions

In all countries where Bel operates, we have developed a deep understanding of local nutritional challenges. More than 370 recipe compositions have thus been adapted and optimized since 2012 to contribute to better coverage of populations' nutritional intake across different geographies, while also guaranteeing optimal quality and food safety. Over the last five years, 88% of recipe changes have had a positive impact on the nutritional quality of our products.

  • In Europe, over the past 10 years, we have reduced the fat and salt content of The Laughing Cow® by 8%. And in Spain, The Laughing Cow® Light formula has been enriched with calcium and vitamin D to meet local nutritional needs.
  • In Algeria, Egypt, and Morocco, we have also launched The Laughing Cow® 4 Essentiels, enriched with vitamins, iron, zinc, and iodine, to help combat nutritional deficiencies. 100% of our GoGo SqueeZ® fruit pouch recipes have no added sugar.
  • By 2026, 100% of Pom'Potes® recipes will be "no added sugar".
  • We offer plant-based options for our cheese brands Boursin®, Mini Babybel®, and The Laughing Cow®.

Simple Recipes, Short Ingredient Lists

To meet the expectations of consumers, who are increasingly attentive to the composition of the products they purchase, we strive to offer the simplest possible recipes, with a minimum of ingredients, while ensuring high-quality products. We have thus successfully managed to progressively remove certain additives from our recipes without compromising on food safety, shelf life, or taste. By 2021, all artificial colors and flavors had been eliminated across all of its core brands: Mini Babybel®, The Laughing Cow®, Kiri®, and Boursin®. This achievement in recipe simplification is the culmination of three years of research and development.

As a leader in the agri-food industry, we recognize that universal solutions are no longer sufficient to address the growing challenges related to global dietary needs. At Bel, we are committed to supporting specific dietary requirements for athletes, seniors, and individuals managing their weight, by rethinking ingredients, formulations, and nutrient delivery methods. Our innovations are not merely aimed at keeping pace with evolving trends, but at paving the way by creating personalized food solutions that support healthier lives.

The balance of healthier pairings

We believe that healthy eating should also be simple, accessible, and delicious. Our products aim to encourage more frequent and natural vegetable consumption, for both children and adults. Pairing our cheese portions or plant-based alternatives with vegetables creates balanced, flavorful combinations that are richer in nutrients. It's a simple way to encourage healthy habits at key moments: snack time, aperitifs, lunchboxes, and office breaks.

BEL NUTRI+: NUTRITIONAL PROFILING

Product quality also means nutritional quality—and we are constantly working to improve our recipes so they better align with nutritional guidelines and consumer expectations. Since 2017, we have voluntarily implemented Bel Nutri+, our own nutritional profiling system, which defines the standards we expect in terms of product composition. Developed with the support of international scientific experts, Bel Nutri+ is based on the recommendations of the World Health Organization and the European Food Safety Authority.

We have made a commitment that by 2030, 90% of our branded sales will come from "positive recipes," meaning they either meet the Bel Nutri+ nutritional profiling criteria or contain 0 or 1 additive. This voluntary and binding commitment enables us to develop action plans with each of our brands to continuously improve their nutritional quality.

Encourage Healthy Eating Habits

A healthy diet is built upon a set of daily behaviors, starting from a young age. To encourage healthy eating habits, we support and implement nutritional education programs for our consumers.

To this end, we have established a framework for developing long-term partnerships with organizations and government authorities to support programs promoting healthy eating behaviors for children and families. Our goal is to support a nutrition awareness program in 10 countries by the end of 2025. We have also developed nutritional communication materials on the nutritional benefits of fruits for children's snacks.

Internally, the 'Healthy Smiles' program educates our employees on adopting a more balanced diet and a more active lifestyle. By 2025, our goal is for 100% of our employees to benefit from these programs.

RESPONSIBLE COMMUNICATION CHARTER

To promote healthy consumption habits and ethical behaviors, a responsible communication charter guides our teams in all the Group's communications (such as advertisements, flyers, images, TV, and press).

Furthermore, since 2016, Bel has been a member of the EU Pledge, a voluntary initiative that aims to limit children's exposure to advertisements for food products that do not meet nutritional criteria set by an external committee.
