THE STORY OF BABYBEL®

1931

Babybel® was born in 1931 and made its official mark in 1934. After World War II, this little cheese captured hearts everywhere! Its charm lies in its perfectly round shape and iconic bright red wax coating, inspired by Edam. This packaging genius not only ensures impeccable preservation but also guarantees freshness while being super convenient to carry anywhere.

1952

Babybel® became available throughout France starting in 1952. French dietary habits were undergoing a revolution: strong cheeses were out! Consumers flocked to self-service shelves, and for the first time, children began to assert their own tastes, quite different from their parents'!

1976

The Babybel® family grew with the arrival of its little sibling: Mini Babybel®. This fun and ultra-convenient cheese won hearts in record time! Such success propelled it to the United States in 1979. The range expanded with new flavors, introducing Emmental in 1998, a delightful goat cheese variant in 2006, followed by Gouda and Mini Caractère in 2013.

2022

Now available in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, Babybel®'s plant-based version confirms the strong potential of plant-based alternatives.

2025

Arrival of Babybel Protéines® in France—a snack with the classic Babybel® taste and high in protein, designed for active adults seeking convenience. With 18% more protein and 33% less fat than Babybel® Original, each 22g portion contains 5.7g of protein naturally sourced from milk. Made with only 4 ingredients, it consists of 98% milk, 100% French, from cows grazing at least 150 days a year and fed without GMOs.
