BEL MAKES A COMMITMENT TO ART
On 5 June 2010, the opening of the REWIND contemporary art exhibition at the Maison de La vache qui rit® in Lons-le-Saunier, in the Jura, will mark the beginning of the activities of Bel Group's artistic Laboratory, Lab’Bel.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Art is an integral part of Bel's DNA
The REWIND exhibition is the first concrete example of Bel's support for contemporary art. Indeed, this commitment has its roots in the family tradition of a Group, which, for example, chose Benjamin Rabier to design its famous laughing cow, but which also takes inspiration from the mission that the company has set itself, namely “Sharing smiles with families by bringing the pleasure of dairy goodness". This emphasis on helping others and spreading joy is apparent in the vocation of the Laboratory which supports the production of contemporary art by backing artists and sharing the pleasure that art brings with the widest possible public.
The task of directing Lab’Bel has been entrusted to the visual artist Laurent Fiévet, a member of the Bel family, whose images have been the subject of several exhibitions and interventions, from the Kiasma Contemporary Art Museum in Helsinki (the Hitchcock Series in 2003) to Arte Video Night in 2009.
The missions of the Bel Group's artistic Laboratory
Lab’Bel has three main missions. The first is to organise artistic events and exhibitions to make contemporary art more accessible to the public. REWIND is the first concrete example.
The second is to build up a collection of art works linked to the Laboratory's themes and executed in the noughties; the works of this collection could also be shown during exhibitions.
Lastly, Lab’Bel will support artists in their medium-term production approach by encouraging study trips, professional relations and residencies.
Lab’Bel events in 2010
There will be 2 major events in 2010. Firstly, the REWIND exhibition at the Maison de La vache qui rit®, from 5 June to 5 of September. This temporary exhibition, which will display works by twelve artists from different countries, will present a series of works exploring the theme of childhood. Sculptures, paintings, photographs, sound installations and videos will test the artists' capacity to turn back the hands of time by returning to the paradise lost that is childhood.
The second major event in 2010 will take place on 1 October. The Laboratory will participate in the 'Nuit Blanche' cultural all-nighter in Metz. A choice linked to the recent opening of the Centre Pompidou-Metz contemporary art museum in May 2010.
