Discover Port Salut®

Port Salut is 180 years of history in a cheese! In 1816, after fleeing events related to the French Revolution, some monks settled at a ford in the Mayenne river at a point called Port Rhingeard. As they planted their feet on the ground they exclaimed: "Ici est notre Salut!" ("Here is our salvation!") Thus the abbey's name incorporated the French word for salvation, becoming "Notre Dame du Port du Salut". The monks decided to produce cheese at the abbey. Thus was born the whole, ripened Port Salut cheese.Née en 1816, et affiné dans les caves de la Fromagerie du Port Salut depuis son origine, Port Salut® est la marque la plus ancienne du Groupe Bel.



The authenticity of a historic monument
Port Salut offers all the authenticity of a real cheese with a mild flavor and creamy texture that families can enjoy together every day.
The legend of Port Salut is built on four essential dates. In 1840 the Port Salut brand was trademarked. Production intensified and eventually diversified until, in 1980, the 320-gram portion of Port Salut was officially launched. In 2003, a delicious new version of the product came to the market as Fondant du Port Salut enticed fans of great cheese.

In the wake of that change, the Port Salut Processed Slices were launched in 2007. These innovative and succulent products certainly have an effect on connoisseurs of fine table foods and good dairy products.

Available in whole rounds, slices or small portions, the famous cheese is available in any shape you choose.
