First crafted by monks at the Maredsous abbey in the mid-20th century, production of Maredsous has not stopped growing since. Consequently, in 1982, Fromagerie-Brasserie de Maredsous S.A. (FROBRA) was created and acquired shortly thereafter by the Bel group. Its volume makes it an uncontested market leader, but Maredsous is also an undeniable leading brand in the minds of Belgian consumers.

Maredsous, a cheese with heart




As the number one cheese brand in Belgium, Maredsous accounts for nearly 30% of the sales volume for the group's Belgian subsidiary. The brand encompasses some 30 different products: customized chunks at the cheese counter, self-serve slices and blocks, tubs or individual servings of processed cheese or mini-logs. Traditionally, Maredsous's fans are the French-speaking Belgians. Indeed, the product's image is closely affiliated with the craftsmanship of the Maredsous abbey, with is deeply rooted in Walloon territory. Its unique flavor is immediately recognizable.
